Arrested in Arizona? Call Today for Help!

If you have been cited for a DUI or a misdemeanor crime and told to go to the San Tan Justice Court , then you must have been stopped by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s office. If you were stopped by a city cop, they would’ve sent you to the city court.

San Tan Justice Court Boundaries

To be sent to the San Tan Justice Arizona Court, you must have been arrested within its jurisdictional boundaries: McKellips to the north, Hunt Highway to the south, Meridian Road to the east and Gilbert to the west. These boundaries do not form a perfect rectangle. If you were cited and sent to the San Tan Justice System, make sure that you were actually arrested within those jurisdictional boundaries. If you weren’t, then the whole case can be thrown out on a jurisdictional defense. DM Cantor can help make sure you were arrested within these boundaries.

The address for the San Tan Justice Center is 201 East Chicago Street in Chandler, AZ. It’s located at East Chicago and Delaware street in downtown Chandler within a regional court center. Look for the San Tan Justice Courtroom. The judge there is Sherwood Johnston. Sherwood Johnston was appointed as the San Tan Justice of the Peace on January 11, 2023, by the Board of Supervisors. Prior to his appointment, he served as a Judge Pro Tempore in the Justice Courts since 2008 and as the Magistrate for the town of Paradise Valley. With a Bachelor’s degree in business from Texas Christian University and a background in real estate and business management, Judge Johnston brings a diverse skill set to his role. He is also the former president of the Arizona Magistrates Association and resides with his family in Gilbert. San Tan Justice Court is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the phone number is 602-372-3400. There is plenty of free parking available out front. Whenever you go to court, dress appropriately. Do not wear shorts, tank tops, hats, sunglasses or flip-flops.

Keep in mind, most justices of the peace are not lawyers and did not go to law school. They’re elected. This means that they essentially won a popularity contest; they weren’t given the job based on skill. They are given six weeks of training and told they can judge people.
