State v. Mr. L (DMC No. 18255) – Felony Transportation and Possession of Dangerous Drugs For Sale (30 Pounds Methamphetamine; 127 Fentanyl Pills; 10 Oxycodone Pills), Felony Money Laundering, and Felony Misconduct Involving a Weapon (with Gun) – Dismissed (Due to Cooperation Deal) – Maricopa County Superior Court (Case No. CR20XX-XXXXX4)
Mr. L’s name became known to the East Valley Drug Enforcement Task Force (EVDETF) regarding the Transportation and Sale of Dangerous Drugs. A stakeout was conducted, in which Mr. L was seen getting in and out of various cars at a known drug drop location. As the car left, Mr. L was pulled over, and his vehicle was searched by K9 Units. At that time, 30 pounds of Methamphetamine, some Oxycodone and Fentanyl Pills were found. In addition, cash and a gun were also located.
Mr. L was Arrested, and subsequently Charged with Transportation and Possession of Dangerous Drugs for Sale, Money Laundering, and Misconduct Involving a Weapon. It was at this time that he secured the services of DM Cantor. The first thing we did was contact the Detective to see if it were possible to perform a “Cooperation Deal”. Because Mr. L had already been Charged, we needed to involve the Deputy Maricopa County Attorney.
Mr. L was put on the Detective’s radar by another Confidential Reliable Informant, so the DEA Agent and the EVDETF Task Force Members had extensive surveillance on Mr. L. During the process of our negotiation, it was agreed that Mr. L would need to provide not only names and locations, but he’d have to do an in-person “Introduction” with an Undercover Detective and other people suspected of drug dealing. He also was required to secure Arrests of more than 30 pounds of methamphetamine. Mr. L subsequently completed the terms of his “Free Talk” Agreement, and all Charges were Dropped against him. He has subsequently turned his life around, is drug free and is living as a productive citizen. If he would have been Convicted of the original Charges, he could have spent well over 20 Years in Prison.
