State v. Mr. E (DMC No. 17122) – Felony Aggravated Luring of a Minor for Sexual Exploitation, and Felony Public Sexual Indecency to a Minor – Not Charged/Featured in Rolling Stone Magazine – Scottsdale Police Department Investigated (DR No. 20XX-XXXX4)
Mr. E was the bass player for a very famous heavy metal band. He began an online relationship with a young female fan who lived overseas. During their relationship, they would often engage on FaceTime and mutually masturbate. It turned out that this young fan was recording some of these sessions. She eventually showed the videos to some of her friends, and then those friends flooded the internet with the videos and statements that Mr. E was grooming an underage female.
Mr. E was immediately contacted by the band’s management, and they told him that he could potentially charged with Felonies, and might have to be let go from the band. Mr. E then secured the services of DM Cantor.
We found through various text messages, that the young lady claimed she was 21 years old. In reality, it turned out she was under the age of 18. We also found various other messages in which she said that she did not wish to seek any Prosecution, and that in her Country she didn’t think it was illegal. We then did international research, and found that in her Country this behavior was not illegal at her age. However, there’s still the potential he could be Charged in the United States.
We then contacted the Scottsdale Police Department, and arranged a sit-down meeting with Detectives and Mr. E. We explained everything that occurred, and provided text messages showing that Mr. E was tricked into thinking she was over 18 years of age. Because she was in the range of 15, 16, and 17 years of age, there is a Statutory Defense that he “did not know, and should not have known” that she was under 18 years of age. Ultimately, the Scottsdale Police Department Declined to Route the case to Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for Charges. In the meantime, Mr. E was fired from his band, and there was a press firestorm involved. This case ended up being featured in various international media outlets, and in Rolling Stone magazine.
