Jason Karpel was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. After high school, he attended Arizona State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Drawn to Arizona, Jason remained in the state to attend law school, where he served as a teaching assistant and worked for a criminal defense firm. Upon graduating, he immediately passed the Arizona Bar Exam and began pursuing his lifelong passion for criminal defense.

Jason joined DM Cantor in 2017 and became a partner in 2023. In 2025, he achieved Board Certification in Criminal Law through the State Bar of Arizona and also became a Board-Certified DUI Specialist through the National College of DUI Defense. Jason is one of only three attorneys in Arizona to hold dual board certifications in both Criminal Law and DUI Defense.

Throughout his career, Jason has exclusively practiced criminal defense. He is a highly effective, aggressive, and accomplished trial attorney who handles a wide range of cases, including homicides, sex crimes, drug offenses, DUI cases, vehicular crimes, and appeals. Jason has completed more than 80 jury trials to verdict and has been recognized as a Southwest Super Lawyers “Super Lawyer” from 2020 through 2026.
