Watch this video of DM Cantor, a Board Certified Criminal Law Specialist, describe in detail what to expect when visiting the Maricopa County Superior Court in Mesa, Arizona.
Some people refer to this court as “SEF” (which is an acronym for Southeast Facility) and some people refer to it as “SEJD” (which is an acronym for Southeast Judicial District). Either way, they both mean the same thing. The Maricopa County Superior Court in Mesa is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M and it is located at 222 East Javelina Avenue, Mesa, Arizona 85201. To get there, take US Route 60 to the Mesa Drive exit then head south. Continue south for a couple of blocks until you reach Javelina Drive then make a right and you will see the Maricopa County Superior Court complex. It is a four-story building; you can’t miss it. Park on the south side of the complex as the entrance to the court is on the south side of the building.
The Mesa Superior Court Complex
Once you are inside the complex, you will check-in at the main reception desk. Court staff will then assist you in finding out exactly where you need to be. Sometimes they will direct you to go down a hallway to the west where you may have to check-in at another desk. You will then wait in the cafeteria area until a prosecutor or public defender comes to speak with you. If this is your first court date, you may be instructed to proceed directly to your courtroom after initial check-in. There is a cafeteria inside the complex so if you are going to be there for a while, you can get food without having to leave the complex.
Always be sure to dress professionally when you make a court appearance. This makes a good impression on the judge and shows that you take your case seriously. Dress as if you are going to a job interview. Do not wear baseball caps, sunglasses, shorts or t-shirts. If you have a court appearance at the Maricopa County Superior Court in Mesa, you are most likely there for a felony case so you will want to dress professionally. If you would like to know what we think of your assigned Judge, just click on ‘ Judges ’ from the top menu, scroll down to ‘Maricopa County Superior Court’, locate your Judge’s name and we will give you an opinion on your Judge. We will either describe the Judge as pro-defense (good), pro-state (bad), fair (right down the middle) or we will not have an opinion because they have just rotated onto the criminal bench and our office have not yet dealt with that particular judge before.
