Information on the Downtown Phoenix Justice Court and Judge:

If an individual has received a misdemeanor, criminal ticket or a DUI and has been directed to go to the downtown Phoenix Justice court, this means that they have either been arrested by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) or the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. Note that if an individual was arrested by a Phoenix city police officer, then the individual should be directed to city court.

The Downtown Phoenix Justice Court’s jurisdictional boundaries are 19th Drive to the west, 56th Street to the east, Thomas Road to the north and Lower Buckeye Road to the south. These boundaries do not make a perfect square so it is essential to determine that the arrest was actually made within these boundaries. If that is not the case, an individual will have a jurisdictional defense to the charge which can result in the entire case being dismissed.

The Downtown Phoenix Justice Court is located at 620 West Jackson Street, basically at West Jackson and 7th Avenue. The court’s business hours are 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday, and the phone number is (602) 372-6300. Parking is available at meters and there is also a parking garage near the court building. Individuals arriving to the courthouse should use common sense to dress appropriately. Basically, sunglasses, hats, shorts, t-shirts, tank tops and similar clothing items should not be worn.
